MOSCOW—Leading Russian finance expert Andrey Movchan will join the Carnegie Moscow Center as a senior associate and director of its Economic Policy Program.

Movchan’s research efforts will focus on the Russian economy and how it is responding to the combined effects of recession, Western sanctions, and the drop in oil prices. Other areas of study will include the Eurasian Economic Union and Russia’s economic relations with the European Union.

Movchan has more than two decades of experience in the Russian and international financial sectors as a senior executive. He served as an executive director of Troika Dialog for six years. From 2003 to 2009, Movchan headed Renaissance Investment Management Group, which he founded, and from 2006 to 2008, he was the CEO of Renaissance Credit Bank. He founded the Third Rome investment company and served as its CEO and managing partner from 2009 until the end of 2013.

Movchan writes frequently for a range of publications, including Forbes, Vedomosti, and Slon.ru on economics and financial issues. Movchan received his master of science from Moscow State University, a master of finance from the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

“The recent re-launch of the Carnegie Moscow Center has allowed us to attract a new group of excellent analysts who are working on the most pressing issues facing Russia and the larger region,” said Carnegie Moscow Center Director Dmitri Trenin. “Andrey is an experienced finance expert who will be a tremendous asset to our new team. I am confident the revived Economic Policy Program will become an open discussion platform for those interested in Russia’s political economy and its challenges.”
