On April 30, 2007 the Carnegie Middle East Center hosted a workshop on economic reform in Jordan. The discussion centered on the nature of recent reform programs, the type of social and economic challenges currently facing Jordan, the factors behind the failure to sustain deep reform, the main actors that influence reform, and steps that could be taken by the donor community to further reform.

The second annual Carnegie Junior Fellows Conference engaged young professionals in the field of foreign policy to discuss the question: "Is U.S. Primacy Fading?"
On April 25, the Carnegie Middle East Center hosted an open seminar led by Marina Ottaway and Amr Hamzawy in which they presented their latest paper, “Fighting on Both Fronts: Secular Parties in the Arab World.” They concluded by highlighting some of the strategies that secular parties might employ to revive their organizations, rebuild their constituencies, and regain public appeal.

On April 24, 2007, the Carnegie Endowment hosted a talk entitled “China’s Health Care Reform: Not Just a Policy Failure,” with Yanzhong Huang.

While some level of dislocation is inevitable in an era of globalization, a comprehensive vision of promoting employment calls for supporting workers through these periods of transition. Unfortunately, the current US safety net for dislocated workers has more holes than net.
